Cat Adoption: First Day Home
Alright, so you’ve gotten your supplies all together, you found your cat, and you are ready to bring your new family member home! This is a delicate and important time and it is necessary to make sure that you are prepared for kitty’s arrival!

First things first, make sure that you have all of your supplies ahead of time. This means you have the litter box set up, the food and water dishes out and ready, the toys placed, and the bed turned down! When kitty comes home she is going to want to know exactly where everything is!
When you go to pick up kitty from their previous home remain calm! It is very exciting but you don’t want to overwhelm your new family member! As much as you want to pull him or her out of the carrier and cuddle her it is best to leave her there until you get home. You don’t want to be pulling her out all the time because it could be very stressful.

Once you get to your place bring the carrier in by the litter box. Lift your new friend out and place her in there so that she knows where it is. Then, let her explore! She will likely jump right out of there and be on her way… which is totally fine! Let her look around the house on her own. Refrain from picking her up right away and trying to carry her. She is in a new environment and she wants to see what it is all about! While she is looking around you and the other family members might want to take a place in the living room and just wait. She will eventually show up and she will appreciate the time she’s had to look around.

If she is a shy kitty she may not be all for cuddling at first. She may dart straight under a bed and stay there for awhile. Have patience with your new pal… it has been a very busy day for her and she may be a little nervous. The more patience you have with her the more she will trust you as she knows that you will be there when she is ready!

All in all, when kitty comes home patience is key. We know it is VERY exciting but think of it this way; this is kitty’s new forever home! She will be there a long time and you will have plenty of time to get to know each other! The trust that you build at the beginning is going to be of the utmost importance to your relationship!
Well anipals, this concludes our series on cat adoption! We hope you enjoyed it and found it to be helpful! Until later, meow on!
Adoption Tuesday!
Good morning anipals and welcome to Adoption Tuesday! Today we are featuring a very handsome fellow named Fraggle! He could definitely be a candidate for the pawparazzi!

This is what the Dane County Humane Society has to say about Fraggle!
Fraggle is a handsome medium haired brown tabby adult male cat (possibly Maine Coon mix?) This darling guy is very outgoing, loving, and enjoys meeting new people. Fraggle is ready for adoption and can't wait to call a family his own. So stop by today to meet with Fraggle! :)
Fraggle looks like an amazing pal to have! If you think he might be the cat for you, feel free to check out his site here.

When it comes to adoption every little bit helps. Sometimes we don't have the space in our houses... but there are other ways to help! You can share the information around or even sponsor Fraggle on the website! This will help provide food and care for him until he can go to his loving forever home!
I hope you all have a fantastic day!
Bring on the Guilt
Those humans... how could they...

Anipals... they LEFT me this weekend! Can you believe that?! They went "camping". Pshaw... I will never understand a humans need to place themselves willingly out in the elements for no apparent reason. Us former strays know better! Being indoors is far better!
It's okay though... I think the humans learned their lesson. First of all it stormed ALL Friday night... it was pretty scary. I had to hold down the fort all by myself...

But those CRAZY humans were outside in a tent! What loonies... I'm glad they didn't make me go... although I think they should have just stayed home. How could they leave me?
Anyways... while they were away I perfected the art of the "guilt look". Anipals... this look will come in quite handy when the humans are doing or did something you don't approve of. I thought I would share some of my poses in case you thought they might be useful to you next time your human steps out of line!
">Make it really serious...
I find that if you droop your eyes a bit like so... you get an even better reaction!

Once you perfect it you can even add in the full on guilt-act!
Check it out...
Don't I look pathetic? I'm really fine... but you want to make the humans feel bad! There is a direct correlation between the success of a guilt look and the amount of kibble in your bowl! Do some really good acting and you might even guilt them into giving you HUMAN food! Oh the possibilities...
Well anipals... I got to go work on mom so that she doesn't forget her mistake. Don't be afraid to use the guilt look... it will cause your life to be fruitful and lovely!
Until later anipals!
Love, purrs, and nosetaps,

Cat Adoption: In Preparation for Kitty’s First Day Home
Good morning anipals and welcome to the next part in our series on Cat Adoption! Today we are going to be talking about kitty’s first day home and what you need to have to ensure our comfort!
Cats are pretty low maintenance... get us food and a litter box and we are pretty happy. However, when preparing for our arrival home there are definitely some things we would suggest purchasing… to ensure our happy transition!
Follow this list and you will be on top of the world!
This is an essential piece of the puzzle! You wouldn’t want to come home to a new apartment only to find out you had no bathroom, would you? I don’t think so! The litter box is a wonderful contraption and we would much appreciate having one waiting for us when the time comes! Litter boxes come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. There are ones with lids, without lids, automatic cleaning, etcetera. There is no need to get super fancy. So long as you get a spacey box with decently high sides that should do well! You wouldn’t want to be stuffed in a tiny bathroom where you could barely turn around, would you? Well neither do we!

As essential as the litter box is… it is of no use unless there is actually litter in it! Again, there are insane amounts of varieties of litter out there. Just make sure that the litter is a low dust unscented formula and we should be quite happy!

You as well as I know that coming home to food is one of the greatest comforts available! But in order to have this we need somewhere to eat it from! A food and water dish are of the utmost importance!
There are many different kinds made in different materials such as plastic, glass, ceramic, and stainless steel. I prefer the stainless steel bowls as they are easiest to clean and best at getting rid of bacteria that could be harbored there. I am especially sensitive because I, my friends, have chin acne. I know, it is awful. Stainless steel dishes are best for me so that I don’t break out all the time! All in all, you just want to make sure you have a good sturdy dish that you will be able to clean daily!

What is a food dish without food? When we come home we are going to be hungry, so it is a good idea to have some noms waiting! You may want to find out what we are currently eating before you pick us up. That helps to ensure an easy transition into your household. I would also suggest buying a smaller bag because it is very possible once you bring us to the vet for our check up we may need to eat something else. Vets know best anipals, so follow their advice!

Ladies and gentlemen, not only will this addition to your purchases make us feel right at home, but it might save a lot of heartache by saving your furniture! We are cats… we need to scratch! Consider it our daily manicure! With a scratching post, we will have no need to scratch elsewhere (do keep in mind you may have to teach us how to use it first!). It will be most appreciated by us!

Don’t forget this, ladies and gentlemen! This is something you will be using all the time! You will need it when you go to pick us up… otherwise you won’t be able to get us home! You will also use it to bring us to our vet visits or any other place we might need to travel! It is the best way for us to travel, so don’t be shy! Make sure you pick up a nice sturdy carrier that you think we would feel comfortable in. Make sure there is enough room for us in there too! Check the weight restrictions on it, just in case a particular carrier wasn't made for our curvaceous figure!

Humans, we are beautiful and handsome and we know it! In order to keep us pampered and comfortable, it is important to have these tools around! Nail clippers are a must for our well being! If you don’t know how to clip nails, feel free to check out our previous blog on that here.

A grooming brush is also good to have. It helps keep our shedding down! Depending on whether we are long or short haired cats there are different tools for each! Short hair cats (like me) don’t require as much grooming… but a brush here and there is always much appreciated!

Fun extras:
That pretty much takes care of the essentials, but there are a couple other things that might make us feel more at home.
The sky is the limit! Buy a couple different types of toys to see what we like! Or just one that we can focus our attention on! We are active and need something to entertain us, so having a welcoming toy is very nice!

We would much appreciate having a “lounge area” set aside just for us. Mom likes to call this the “don’t bother me” place. When I came home she bought me a bed. I quickly shunned that… it was not my style. But THEN she bought me a cat tent and I loved it! She made the rule that if I was in that tent, I was not to be bothered. Thus I quickly learned that if I needed to be by myself I could go into this tent and like magic… no prying fingers! This is a nice idea for us because although we love you guys with our whole hearts… sometimes we just need “me” time! You understand!

A little treat upon arrival can help us warm up to you and our surroundings quickly! Just make sure not to overfeed us… tummy aches on the first night home are never fun!

Hope this helped human friends! Trust me, your new feline friend is going to think you are the coolest person ever when she or he comes home! You rock!
Tune in next week as we continue our series on Cat Adoption!
Much love, purrs, and nosetaps,

Adoption Tuesday!
Good morning anipals and welcome to another edition of our Adoption Tuesday blog! Today is another exciting day here at Lilly's Kitty Lounge! We are most pleased to introduce to you our candidate of the week Troy!

As you can see, Troy is awesome and perhaps a bit goofy! He came in as a stray (like me!) and is now patiently awaiting his forever home! Here is what the Dane County Humane Society has to say of Troy!
Troy's got it all - he's handsome, confident, and available! He was found stray under someone's deck, so we can only estimate that he's around 2 years old. This front declawed guy likes to mix and mingle with the other cats in the adoption center at Mounds Pet Food Warehouse in Fitchburg. Come meet him today !
I have to admit... I kind of had a little crush on Troy when I first saw him... but alas it is not meant to be for me. He is meant for some other wonderful kitty companion and her family! Everyone needs a man kitty in the house! ;)

So if you are interested in adopting or sponsoring Troy, check out his page here!
Troy would be an excellent addition to any household! Let's find him his forever home today! :)
