Cat Adoption: Are we the pet for you?

Good morning anipals and happy Wednesday! Today we are starting a very special series on cat adoption! I am so excited!

Today’s topic is: Cats, are we the right pet for you? ;)

Well of course we are, how could we not be? We are just amazing in general. But there are some things to think about when you are considering a cat. Our awesomeness and general royal ‘tude is not for everyone!

First of all, consider this. When you adopt us into your home you are adopting another member of the family! We are no whim nor are we a short term commitment. With good care some of our friends have lived into the 20 year mark (I am aiming for 30!). This means that when you adopt a cat, you are adopting us for the long run!

The good news is that we are fairly self sufficient! Feed us, love us, play with us, and clean our litter box and we are pretty happy! And the love goes both ways humans! Love us and we will love you, although we all have different ways of showing it!

Just as you humans have many different personalities, so do us cats. It is a good idea to meet your intended furry adoptee before you take them home to see if you mesh. You wouldn’t just randomly take some person as a roommate without checking them out first, would you? Well the same is true with cats! Maybe one of us isn’t quite suited for you and another is. But once you find your cat soulmate, you will be set!

**Do prepare to spoil us, we like that!**

Some things to think about when you are considering taking us into your home!

1. We are beautiful and self sufficient, but we do require attention, even though we may not show it sometimes! This means daily play sessions, food sessions, and poop box cleaning. These are essential to our health and happiness! If you are thinking of adopting a cat, make sure you have the time and energy (especially with a kitten) to take care of us! We promise it is worth it!

2. We require yearly vet visits, up to 2 a year depending on our age. These range in price depending on what is on the repertoire for that visit. We may need shots (for example, our yearly rabies shot) or some other medicine. In addition we also have other expenses such as litter, food, and of course toys! This means that we are an investment. Before you take us into your home make sure you have the means to take care of us.

3. Depending on our personalities, we may get into some mischief. It’s a good idea to take these incidents in stride… for example, if we shred the toilet paper rolls in the bathroom. You can train us to be good but make sure you start right away! And this doesn’t ensure that we will never get into mischief! Just think of us as your new adopted children… because that is exactly how we are at times!

As you can see, it is a good idea to seriously consider the responsibility of adopting us before going out and doing it. Adopting on a whim is never a good idea. You have to make sure that you and your family are ready for us! But once you are prepared we can be great companions! There are studies that say having a pet can lower your stress! I find this to be no big surprise… after all we are amazing!

We are beautiful, smart (sometimes too much for our own good), loving animals that if brought into your home can be wonderful pets! Consider us well when you are thinking of adopting an animal! We would love to join you!

Thanks for tuning in today anipals! Next week we will continue this series on cat adoption!

Meow on!
